MURRAY COUNTRY FAMILIES
James Williamson
James Williamson was born in Georgia about 1837, when Murray County still had a few Cherokees living within the newly formed county. The Murray County Census of 1850 listed James, then age 13, living in the household of William Williamson, age 22, and Harriet Williamson, age 20, both of whom had been born in South Carolina. It is probable that William was James' older brother–he was not old enough to have been his father.
The Census of 1860 listed James, with wife Eliza, using post office at Rock Creek.
James enlisted in the Confederate Army in March 1862 as a Private, Company A, 39th Ga. Cummings Volunteers. He was killed at Knoxville, Tennessee, probably in November 1862.
